In Loving Memory of my Father





It is with great sadness that the Gummer family announces the passing of Melford on Sunday May 12th, 2019 in his 97th year.


He passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family. Retired Major/Squadron Leader from the Canadian Armed Forces he lived a full life and will be forever missed. Son of the late Bruce and Freda (Wilson) Gummer of Warkworth Ont.


He leaves behind his loving wife of 72 years Gladys (Welton), sons Marshall and Gregory (Pam Harvey) and daughters Melodie (John Adams) and Carol (Michel Lanteigne).


He treasured his time with his 7 grandchildren Keith (Mary), Stuart (Jess), Carolyn (Kyle), Patrick, Angela (Drew), Michael (Kat), Sarah and 3 great grandchildren Cooper and Jake Heijmans and Benjamin Gummer.


He was an amazing husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Mel will be missed by his brother Owen and sister Zella, predeceased by his brother Jack and sister Betty. Fondly remembered by many cousins, nieces and nephews.


Mel was born in Melfort Saskatchewan and spent his teenage years in Warkworth. He served in the Royal Canadian Air Force during WWII as a Spitfire pilot. He attended the University of Toronto and graduated as a Pharmacist in 1951.


He made his career as a pharmacist and pilot in the Canadian Air Force in Summerside, Goose Bay, Bagotville, Marville France and Kingston. He retired in 1976 and continued to work as a pharmacist in drug stores in the Kingston area.


He was an avid gardener, curler, golfer and traveller. He will be dearly missed by his many relatives and friends.


Dad You were my Hero, My Rock, Love you and miss you.
